PROBLEM:
When I press the clutch, it goes straight to the floor.
DIAGNOSIS:
there is no pressure/little or no resistance
the release bearing/fork is broken/damaged- REPLACE
the diaphragm spring in the clutch pressure plate has collapsed
PROBLEM:
I find it hard to press the clutch down.
DIAGNOSIS:
the clutch cable is worn- REPLACE
the clutch release shaft/housing is worn- REPLACE
PROBLEM:
It is hard/impossible to select/change gears.
DIAGNOSIS:
the transaxle is faulty- REPLACE
the clutch disk is faulty- REPLACE
the pressure plate is faulty- REPLACE
bolts on the flywheel are loose- TIGHTEN
the coupling pin on the shift rod is loose- TIGHTEN
coupling pin is missing- REPLACE
PROBLEM:
My engine increases on its own/ the clutch slips
DIAGNOSIS:
the clutch plate is worn- REPLACE
clutch plate has oil on it due to a leaking rear main seal transaxle input shaft seal
the clutch plate isn't seated- it takes up to 45 starts for a new one to seat
the pressure plate/flywheel is worn- REPLACE
the clutch springs are weak- good idea to REPLACE them
clutch plate has overheated
PROBLEM:
The clutch grabs when I apply it.
DIAGNOSIS:
there is oil/grease on the clutch plate lining
the facings are burnt/glazed
worn/loose engine/transaxle mounts
the splines on the clutch plate hub are worn- REPLACE
pressure plate/flywheel is warped
PROBLEM:
I have a noisy clutch!
DIAGNOSIS:
the release shaft is installed incorrectly
the bearing is faulty- REPLACE
clutch plate damper has spring failure
PROBLEM:
My clutch pedal doesn't return!
DIAGNOSIS:
there is binding in the release cable
the release bearing/fork is broken- REPLACE
